EXPLORATION OF MAKAY |
For lovers of nature in its pure, we offer this trek of exploration in a country of more remote and hardly accessible: the Makay. Result of erosion Pharaonic several million years, Makay is a sanctuary of nature where life has developed self-reliance. We will meet the people Bara, Zebu breeder who is still very committed to the belief of Talismans. We explore the most spectacular Makay along small rivers that are the only pathways to penetrate the solid. We are moving in the heart of this no man's land to reach an oasis of greenery, lakes inhabited by sacred crocodiles. We leave the mountain to reach the river Mangoky for a day cruise in a traditional pirogue.
J1: TANA / TULEAR
Arrival in Tana and correspondence to Tulear. Transfer to the Arboretum Antsokay. Visit the reserve and night in a bungalow on site.
J2: TULEAR / BEROROHA
Transfer by 4X4 through the vast plains of the West. Eight hours of track with difficult passages. Overnight camping.
J3 and J4: BEROROHA / BERONONO
We begin our trek 8 days off the beaten track. We walk along the river Makay for 2 days. We passed through several villages and witness the daily work of residents. The people of Bara, zebu breeders and growers, is still very committed to the beliefs of talismans. Our many meetings we learn more about this ethnic group still intact. Overnight camping.

J5 to J9: TREKKING IN THE MAKAY
We enter the Makay Massif towards the cave Mahatiny to observe patterns dating ancient aboriginal peoples. We are moving along the stream at the bottom of the gorge before reaching an oasis of greenery, lakes inhabited by sacred crocodiles. We access several peaks where we enjoy exceptional views. Overnight camping.
J10: BERONONO / ANTANAMBAO
We cross the savannah and large herds of zebu to reach the edges of the Makaykely covered with dry forests. We will have the opportunity to discover a rare endemic wildlife, among others the Sifaka Verreaux. Overnight camping.
J11: ANTANAMBAO / BEROROHA
We embark on board of traditional pirogue for a day cruise along the Mangoky. We can observe a very rich birdlife: Meller ducks, herons, egrets and other teal. Overnight camping.
J12: BEROROHA / TULEAR / IFATY
Transfer back to Tulear and Ifaty for a well deserved rest. Overnight in bungalow.
J13: IFATY
Free day Ifaty.
J14: IFATY / TULEAR / TANA
Transfer to the airport of Tulear and flight to Tana. Correspondence for the international flight.
