BIRDWATCHING |
INTEREST : Madagascar
present a rich avifauna, with more than two
hundreds classified species, which are endemic for the most part.
Because of the deforestation, a lot of these species are threated
to
disappear. In order to preserve them, we propose you this birdwatching
tour, which is possible thanks to the association ASITY which regroups
malagasy ornithologists. If you choose this tour, you will be sure
to
help all these birds, which tend to disappear.
D-1 : Arrival at Antananarivo in the morning, reception at the airport
by our ornithologist guide, then we go visit the Tsarasaotra’s
private
Park, which is classed RAMSAR site. Many bird species, like the
Squacco Heron, the Cattle Egret or the White faced Whishing Duck,
do their nest in this place. After the visit, we drive to Anjozorobe,
one of the last natural wet forest of the Hight Lands.

D-2 : We observe birds during all the day, among other things, the
endemic Meller ‘s Duck and the Madagascar Rail. At the begining
of
the evening, we go with our guide to search for night birds.

D-3 : We drive to the Andasibe’ National Park, but before,
we do a
break at The Peyreras’s farm, which is famous for its butterfly
breeding.
Free afternoon at Andasibe, and then we do a night walk in the forest.

D-4 : We
observe birds all the day. The park is an eastern middle altitude wet
forest which shelter more
than one hundred nine bird species, like the Souimanga Sunbird, the Madagascar
Red Owl and the
Helmet Vanga. We can observe too, in this park, the most big lemurian species,
the Indri-indri.
Night at Andasibe.
D-5 : Early in the morning, we leave Andasibe for Antsirabe, a thermal
town. Discovery of the charms of
the town, and visit of the different art workshops in the afternoon. Night
at Antsirabe.
D-6 : We travel to Ranomafan’s National Park, but before, we do a
break at Ambositra, in order to
discover the Zafmaniry’s sculpture art. Night at Ranomafana.
D-7 & D-8 : We spend all the days to observe birds, in the law altitude
wet forest which shelter around
ninety bird species, like the Yellow-bellied Sunbird Asity, the Rufous-headed
Ground-Roller and the
Cryptic Warbler. Night at Ranomafana.
D-9 : Early in the morning, we leave for Ranohira. We stop on the way at
Ambalavao, to visit the
Antaimoro paper workshop, then we go observe the Ring Tailed Lemur in the
Anja’s forest.

D-10 : Discovery of the Isalo’s National Park, where we go for a
walk across the rocky landscape, in order
to find the Benson’s Rock Trush, and the Giant Coua. Night at Ranohira.
D-11 : We drive to the Zombitse Vohibasia’s National Park, which
shelter some rare endemic bird species
like The Lafresnaye’s Vanga and the Pitta like Ground Roller. After
a short walk in the park,
we go to Tulear, then we rejoin Ifaty. Night at Ifaty.
D-12 : We discover the Reniala’s Baobabs forest to search for the
Long-Tailed Ground Roller.

D-13 : Return to Tulear, then we take the flight to Antananarivo.Reception
at the airport, then we go visit
the capital and its art markets. Night at Antananarivo.
D-14 : We take the flight to Mahajunga, then we drive to the Ankarafantsika’s
National Park.
This park is one of the most beautifull bird site of the island. In the
evening, we do a short night-walk.

D-15 & D-16 : These days, we discover the western deciduous dry forest.
We can observe there,
different kind of Vanga’s species, like the Van Dam’s Vanga,
the Madagascar Paradise Flycatcher, and
the Brown Mesite. Night at Ankarafantsika.
D-17 : Return to Mahajunga, where we take the flight to Antananarivo. END.
